At APL, we don’t test traditionally. In fact, tests function as diagnostics, enabling us to figure out exactly how we can help improve a student’s learning process and knowledge base. Our tests are carefully constructed and vetted to help develop confidence and aspirations in students while ensuring that the test is calibrated towards their current academic position.
Non-traditional testing methods also help our teachers assess students who do not perform well in testing situations, enabling them to get an accurate assessment of the child’s knowledge rather than one taken under stressful conditions. By keeping assessments continuous, and re-inscribing them as learning activities rather than testing activities, our teachers also help students respond positively to assessment tasks and actively learn from them.
